Morphology
Size
7-12 µm long, 3.8-6 µm wide (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2017).
Shape
Valves elliptic with broad subcapitate ends.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical, heterovalvar.
Striae
Raphe valve: striae radiate; rapheless valve: striae parallel to slightly radiate.
Axial area
Narrow, linear on both valves.
Central area
Raphe valve: small central area bordered by shortened central striae; rapheless valve: central area absent.
Raphe
Straight, filiform with expanded proximal raphe ends.
