Morphology
Size
Length 8.0-13.5 µm, width 3.0-5.0 µm (Flower 1989).
Shape
Valves elliptical, frustules rectangular in girdle view, forming zig-zag colonies.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Parallel or slightly radiate, 15-22.5 in 10 µm (Flower 1989).
Axial area
Narrow, slightly irregular.
Other features
Cingulum composed of many girdle bands.
SEM morphology
Pore fields present at both apices, a single sub-apical rimoportula often present on each valve.
