Morphology
Size
Length: 28-50 µm, width 3-3.5 µm (Hofmann et al. 2011, Van de Vijver et al. 2021).
Shape
Valves narrow lanceolate with margins tapering gradually from slightly inflated valve centre to small subcapitate to capitate poles.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Striae parallel becoming slightly radiate towards poles, alternate,15-17 in 10 µm (Van de Vijver et al. 2021).
Axial area
Narrow axial area.
Central area
A large hyaline central area extending to valve margins, ghost striae can be present.
Other features
Frustules form band-like colonies, in girdle view a split between frustules, except in the valve centre, is often present.
Length: 28-50 µm, width 3-3.5 µm (Hofmann et al. 2011, Van de Vijver et al. 2021).
