Morphology

Size
Diameter: 25-110 µm (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 1991).

Shape
Valves circular, cells are barrel-shaped.

Valve
Central portion of one valve concave, the corresponding valve convex.

Striae
Radiating striae with large areolae, 10-13 in 10 µm (Krammer and Lange-Bertalot 1991).

Other features
Areolae on the mantle are much smaller than on the valve face.

A ring of widely and equally spaced rimoportulae (labiate processes) is present near the periphery of the valve face.
