Morphology
Size
Length 25-110 µm, maximum width 13-22 µm (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2011).
Shape
Dorsal margin with three broadly rounded undulations, ventral margin concave. Dorsal margin tapering abruptly to narrower, shortly protracted, broadly rounded poles.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Radiate throughout, curved towards valve ends. Most striae extending the width of the valve, shorter striae can be intercalated at dorsal margin, 15-18 in 10 µm in centre, 18-24 towards valve ends (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2011).
Raphe
Terminal fissures clearly visible on valve face at valve ends, terminating in centre of poles. Raphe slightly curved on mantle with expanded proximal ends.
SEM morphology
A narrow sternum extending from distal raphe ends parallel to ventral margin. Raphe short, ending < 1/3 along valve mantle, internally terminating in helictoglossa.
External areola openings occluded.
Narrow ridge present on dorsal mantle.
Valvocopula and adjacent copula similar in structure, open bands with 5-6(7) rows of pores on pars exterior. Bands becoming progressively narrower.
