Morphology
Size
Length 27-55 µm, width 6.5-9 µm (Krammer 2000).
Shape
Valves linear with undulating margins and capitate or subcapitate ends.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Radiate striae, becoming strongly convergent at capitate valve ends; some striae curved, 11-14 in 10 µm.
Axial area
Narrow, linear.
Central area
Rhombic, often extending into a narrow or broad fascia, sometimes central area smaller and bordered by short striae in centre of valve.
Raphe
Straight with proximal ends slightly expanded and deflected.
