Morphology
Size
16.5-18.5 µm long, 5.0-5.5 µm wide (UK population).
Shape
Valves cymbelloid with strongly convex dorsal margin, slightly convex ventral margin, and protracted capitate ends.
Symmetry
Isopolar, dorsiventral.
Striae
Striae slighty radiate on dorsal side, more or less parallel or slightly radiate on ventral side, 13-16 in 10 µm.
Axial area
Narrow, straight.
Central area
Indistinct.
Raphe
Slightly curved with slightly expanded and dorsally bent proximal ends, and short ventrally deflected terminal fissures.
