Morphology
Size
120–500 µm long, (5)7-10 µm wide at valve centre, (7)10-15 µm at poles (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 1991).
Shape
Valves linear, margins parallel, with valve ends that broaden, then narrow to acutely rounded ends.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Striae parallel, slightly radiate at valve ends, positioned opposite each other and off-set, 9-10 in 10 µm (UK population), (6)8-11 in 10 µm (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 1991).
Axial area
Narrow, linear.
SEM morphology
A rimoportulae present at each end close to apices.
120–500 µm long, (5)7-10 µm wide at valve centre, (7)10-15 µm at poles (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 1991).
Shape
