Morphology
Size
Length 8-13 µm, width 2.6-3.2 µm (UK population); length 3.4-16.3 µm, width 2.6-3.7 µm (Wetzel et al. 2015).
Shape
Valves linear-elliptic, margins tapering slightly towards broadly rounded poles.
Symmetry
Isopolar.
Striae
Striae radiate throughout, 28 in 10 µm (UK population), 30-36 in 10 µm ( Wetzel et al. 2015).
Axial area
Narrow linear, widening slightly towards central area.
Central area
Large rectangular or acute-angled subfascia, bordered by three very short striae of different length.
SEM morphology
Striae uniseriate, areolae occluded internally by hymenes.
Raphe with drop-shaped proximal ends located distantly from each other, distal raphe fissures bent unilaterally onto mantle.
