Morphology
Size
8-18 µm long, 4-6.5 µm wide (Werum & Lange-Bertalot 2004).
Shape
Valves elliptic-lanceolate with protracted rostrate to subcapitate ends.
Symmetry
Isopolar, heterovalvar.
Striae
Striae radiate throughout on both valves.
Axial area
Narrow, linear, widening slightly towards central area on raphe valve.
Central area
Raphe valve: asymmetric, acute-angled fascia on one side, a rounded area bordered by 2-3 shortened striae on opposite side; rapheless valve: asymmetric with sinus (simple horseshoe-shaped depression) on one side, few slightly shortened striae on opposite side.
Raphe
Straight, filiform with expanded proximal raphe ends.
