Morphology
Size
11-15 µm long, 3-3.5 µm wide (Van de Vijver et al. 2009).
Shape
Valves lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate with protracted rounded, rostrate or subrostrate ends.
Symmetry
Moderately dorsiventral with convex dorsal margin and slightly convex or almost straight ventral margin, isopolar.
Striae
Radiate in central part of valve, becoming parallel towards valve ends on dorsal and ventral side, 27-28.5 in 10 µm dorsally, 26-27 in 10 µm ventrally (Van de Vijver et al. 2009).
Axial area
Very narrow, linear.
Central area
Very small, inconspicuous or absent.
SEM morphology
Raphe filiform, distally slightly curved towards ventral side, near valve centre slightly curved towards dorsal side; proximal raphe endings slightly enlarged, terminal raphe fissures hooked towards ventral side.
Striae composed of 4-5 small, round areolae.
