Morphology
Size
29-41 µm long, 6-7 µm wide (UK population), 28-60 µm long, 6-7.5 wide (Lange-Bertalot 2001).
Shape
Valves narrowly lanceolate, gradually tapering towards acutely rounded ends.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Radiate in valve centre, becoming slightly convergent towards apices, 12-14 in 10 µm (UK population), 10-13 in 10 µm (Lange-Bertalot 2001). Areolae clearly discernible in LM, 29-32(34) in 10 µm (UK population), 27-30 in 10 µm (Lange-Bertalot 2001).
Axial area
Narrow, linear, slightly widening towards centre.
Central area
Small, rhombic.
Raphe
Raphe filiform with central pores turned slightly to the secondary valve side.
