Morphology
Size
24.5-48.0 µm long, 7.5-10.0 µm wide (UK populations), 27.5-53.0 µm long, 7.5-9.0 µm wide (type population).
Shape
Valves with convex dorsal margin and slightly convex ventral margin, valve ends cuneate, not or slightly protracted.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Striae slightly radiate to radiate, becoming parallel to slightly convergent towards poles, 11-13 in 10 µm (UK populations), 11-12 in 10 µm (type population).
Axial area
Narrow, linear.
Central area
Indistinct or small, rounded.
Raphe
Raphe straight, displaced towards ventral margin, proximal endings deflected dorsally, distal raphe fissures deflected towards ventral side.
