Morphology
Size
11.0-25.0 µm long, 4.0-5.5 µm wide (UK population).
Shape
Valves semi-elliptical with convex dorsal margin, slightly concave ventral margin; narrowly rounded, slightly ventrally bent valve ends.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Dorsal striae radiate in valve centre becoming more strongly radiate towards apices, 16-18 in 10 µm (UK population), 15-16 in 10 µm (Levkov 2009). Ventral striae radiate in valve centre, becoming convergent towards apices, 10-13 in 10 µm (Levkov 2009).
Axial area
Narrow, slightly arched.
Central area
Ventral fascia slightly broader than dorsal central area, the latter elliptical, not extending to dorsal margin.
Raphe
Raphe branches arcuate with slightly expanded, more or less straight proximal raphe ends.
SEM morphology
Dorsal striae composed of elongated areolae, each ventral stria composed of a single areola.
