Morphology

Size
85-133 µm long, 3.5-4.5 µm wide (UK population); 90-120 µm long, 3-4 µm wide (Van de Vijver et al. 2020).

Shape
Valves linear-lanceolate, margins gradually tapering to small, subcapitate poles.

Symmetry
Isopolar, isovalvar, bilaterally symmetrical.

Striae
Striae short, more or less parallel.

Axial area
Axial area wide and lanceolate.


SEM morphology
Striae consisting of 1-4 apically elongate, complex areolae, occluded externally by cribra.
An apical pore field located in small ocellulimbus at each pole. Rimoportulae present at both apices.
