Morphology

Size
Length: 12-38 µm, width: 3.5-5 µm (Van de Vijver et al. 2021).

Shape
Valves lanceolate with slightly convex margins, gradually tapering towards protracted, rostrate to capitate poles.

Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.

Striae
Striae parallel to very weakly radiate, more radiate near poles, 18-19 in 10 µm.

Axial area
Sternum very narrow.

Central area
Asymmetrical central area, unilaterally expanded, forming distinct hyaline zone on one side of valve, ghost striae rarely observed; striae on other side of valve hardly shortened.

Other features
Frustules solitary.


SEM morphology
Striae uniseriate with small, rounded areolae.

Valve margin with continuous row of conical spines, poles without spines.

Valve with one rimoportula near or at pole.
