Morphology

Size
Length: 22-48 µm, width: 3-4 µm (Van de Vijver et al. 2021).

Shape
Valves linear to narrow linear-lanceolate with almost parallel to weakly convex margins, gradually tapering towards protracted, subrostrate poles.

Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.

Striae
Striae parallel, becoming weakly radiate near poles, 17-18 in 10 µm.

Axial area
Sternum very narrow.

Central area
Central area asymmetrical, slightly swollen and unilaterally expanded, forming a hyaline zone, striae on opposite side irregularly shortened. Ghost striae occasionally observed.

Other features
Frustules solitary.


SEM morphology
Striae usually uniseriate, occasionally biseriate; areolae rounded.

Ghost striae in central area long, narrow slits.

Valve margin with continuous row of small shark tooth-shaped spines, poles without spines.

Valve with one rimoportula at pole.
