Morphology
Size
19.0-43.5 µm long, 7.5-9.5 µm wide (UK population, near Lewes, type).
Shape
Valves linear to ovate, headpole rounded, footpole cuneate.
Symmetry
Heteropolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Parallel in central part of the valve, becoming radiate near head- and footpole.
Axial area
Narrow, linear.
Other features
Fibulae 6-7(8) in 10 µm, extending from the valve margin to the narrow axial line.
SEM morphology
Interfibular spaces each with one oval portula.
