Morphology
Size
16.0-45.0 µm long, 9.0-14.5 µm wide (UK population from Newhaven, Syntype); 15.0-48.0 µm long, 8-16 µm wide (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 1988).
Shape
Valves ovate, headpole narrowly rounded, footpole cuneate.
Symmetry
Heteropolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Parallel in valve centre, becoming radiate towards the poles, 10-13 in 10 µm (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 1988).
Axial area
Narrow, linear.
