Morphology

Size
5.8-20.7 µm long, 3.9-7.2 µm wide (UK population); 8-38 µm long, 6-10 µm wide (Morales & Manoylov 2006).

Shape
Frustule rectangular in girdle view. Valves elliptic-lanceolate with cuneate to broadly rounded ends.

Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.

Striae
Stria parallel to slightly radiate, 7-8 in 10 µm (UK population), 4-8 in 10 µm (Morales & Manoylov 2006).

Axial area
Sternum wide, lanceolate.
