Morphology
Size
24-70 µm long, 10-24 µm wide (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2011).
Shape
Dorsal margin convex, with four undulations, ventral margin concave. Dorsal margin tapering abruptly to protracted, broadly rounded, rostrate ends.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Striae parallel in valve centre, becoming slightly radiate and curved towards valve ends, 8-11 in 10 µm in valve centre, 15-16 in 10 µm towards valve ends (UK population); areolae clearly visible; shorter striae intercalated at dorsal margin.
Raphe
Raphe curving onto valve face close to valve ends, terminating approximately half way between dorsal and ventral margin.
24-70 µm long, 10-24 µm wide (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2011).
