Morphology

Size
44.0-54.5 µm long, 10.5-13.0 µm wide (UK population).

Shape
Valves lanceolate or elliptic-lanceolate with rostrate ends, sometimes margins slightly undulate.

Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.

Striae
Transapical striae mostly parallel and fine, 33 in 10 µm (UK population); longitudinal striae slightly wavy.

Axial area
Narrow, linear.

Central area
Elongate with a small constriction.

Raphe
Raphe straight, central and distal ends t-shaped. Internally, longitudinal ribs on both sides of raphe fuse with helictoglossa to form a porte-crayon.
