Morphology
Size
38.0-45.5 µm long, 7.5-8.5 µm wide (UK population).
Shape
Valves linear-elliptic, margins tapering gradually to cuneate to broadly rounded apices.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Striae radiate, becoming parallel, then convergent towards valve ends, 10-11 in 10 µm. Areolae discernible in LM, 24-27 in 10 µm (UK population).
Axial area
Narrow, linear, slightly widening towards central area.
Central area
Central area rounded or rhombic, bordered by 3-4 slightly to moderately shortened striae.
Raphe
Raphe filiform with expanded central endings, terminal fissures hooked close to apices.
