To size: To 26mm. Shell Structure: Thin, brittle. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Inequilateral, beaks to posterior. Tumidity: Not tumid. Outline: Elongate ovate, posterior dorsal margin short, giving beak-like appearance to posterior, anterior dorsal margin long, almost straight to rounded anterior margin. Contour: posterior gape.

Sculpture: Fine concentric lines. Margin: Smooth. Ligament: External small brown, arched band, internal ligament in a small, elongate triangular chondrophore. Hinge: LV one small cardinal and single weak laterals; RV two cardinals and single laterals. Pallial Musculature: Fairly shallow relative to length of shell, to midline. Cruciform muscle scars visible in some specimens. Periostracum: Light brown, glossy. Colour: White.

Distribution & Ecology

Lives in a range of substrates but most often coarse sediments with mud or sand content.

Distributed all around the coasts of Britain and Ireland, occurring from the lower shore to the shelf edge.
