To size: To 38 mm. Shell Structure: Solid shell. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Inequilateral, beaks to the anterior. Tumidity: Tumid. Outline: Short, rounded boat shape, longer than high, rounded posterior and anterior margins. No byssal gape.
Sculpture: Radial ribs (30-35), left valve has feint beading. Margin: Crenulated margin, an extension of the radial ribs. Ligament: Brown band visible from the external and runs entire length of dorsal margin. Appears striped lengthwise. Hinge: Taxodont, numerous small teeth set on a thin hinge plate. Pallial Musculature: Anterior adductor muscle round and slightly smaller than the posterior. Periostracum: Brown, very thin, wears off easily. Colour: Cream to white.
Distribution & Ecology
In Britain and Ireland found in Co. Claire, Ireland inside a small blue plastic toy boat along with Argopecten gibbus.
