To size: To 40mm. Shell Structure: Thin, fragile. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Inequilateral, beaks to the extreme anterior. Tumidity: Fairly tumid. Outline: Modioliform, wedge-shaped; antero-dorsal margin straight, gently sloping to broadly rounded posterior margin. Ventral margin straight. Anterior margin acutely rounded, protruding in front of and below beaks.

Sculpture: No sculpture, smooth shell. Margin: Smooth. Ligament: Thin brown band, 2/3rds the length of antero-dorsal margin. Hinge: Edentulous, but with 10-12 small, sloping teeth behind leigament. Pallial Musculature: Obscure. Colour: Green with brown zigzags and stripes. The stripes give the appearance of ribs.

Distribution & Ecology

Type locality is Zoushan and Guangdong region, China. Native range extends north to Kuril Islands in NW PAcific and southwards through Sea of Japan, Ywellow Sea, East China Sea and South China Sea to SIngapore.

Outside its natural range it is recorded in BRitish Columbia, Canada and southwards to Mexico. Also recorded in New Zealand, Australia, MEditerranean, Bay of Biscay, Netherlands and now UK.

First recorded in the UK in the Solent (discovered in 2017) by Barfield et al (2018), this records has since been superceded by Worsfold et al (2020) with previously unpublished survey records from 2011 in Southampton Water.
