Morphology

Size
7-28 µm long, 3-4.5 µm wide (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2011).

Shape
Valves arcuate, dorsal margin flattened and parallel to ventral margin; ends protracted, blunt, rostrate or subcapitate.

Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.

Striae
Striae parallel, slightly radiate near valve ends, evenly spaced throughout valve, 16-18 in 10 µm (UK population).

Raphe
Raphe located mostly on mantle, short terminal fissures curving onto valve face close to ends, terminating close to ventral margin.
