Morphology
Size
Length 15-70 µm, 2.5-5 µm (central European populations, Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 1988); length 21.4-42.3 µm, width 3.3-4.9 µm (type material, Trobajo & Cox 2006).
Shape
Valves linear-lanceolate with protracted rostrate, sometimes slightly subcapitate apices; valve outline towards apices rather cuneate then changing to rostrate.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Not or barely visible.
Raphe
Fibulate raphe system almost at margin of valve (slight space between fibulae and valve margin may be visible); fibulae short and fine, interfibular spaces often slightly larger, can be slightly irregular; fibulae not more widely spaced at centre.
