Morphology
Shape
Valves semi-lanceolate, semi-elliptic to slightly crescentic, with convex dorsal margin, straight or slightly concave ventral margin; apices sometimes slightly ventrally deflected.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar; girdle views of whole frustules biconvex.
Striae
Dorsal striae clearly visible, punctate, parallel in valve centre, slightly radiate towards valve ends; ventral striae very short, radiate in valve centre, convergent towards valve ends.
Axial area
Linear, narrow, straight axial area for most of its length, closer to ventral than dorsal margin.
Central area
Fascia extending to dorsal margin or with very short striae on dorsal side.
Raphe
Filiform, straight proximal ends, distal raphe endings dorsally deflected.
Other features
Girdle view of whole frustules with both valves faces visible.
