Morphology
Shape
Valves lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, convex dorsal margin only slightly more curved than the convex ventral margin, sometimes the valves can be almost symmetrical, dorsal and ventral margins taper gradually, near the apices a little more strongly, towards the rostrate to subcapitate apices, apices sometimes slightly deflected towards the ventral side.
Symmetry
Isopolar, dorsiventral, sometimes almost symmetrical.
Striae
Fine but easily resolved, more or less parallel throughout the valve, slightly more radiate near the poles.
Axial area
Very narrow, linear.
Central area
Not wider than the axial area.
Raphe
Filiform, positioned more or less in the centre of the valve or slightly nearer to the dorsal margin, straight to very slightly biarcuate in the central section of the valve, with slightly dorsally deflected proximal endings; central and polar nodules visible; the latter slightly short from the apices, distal raphe fissure deflected ventrally (SEM).
