Morphology
Size
12.5-60.5 µm long, 2-3 µm wide (UK population).
Shape
Valves arcuate with slightly protracted, subrostrate or weakly subcapitate poles, which can be slightly deflected dorsally.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Striae parallel, sometimes slightly radiate near apices, evenly spaced (22-23 in 10 µm, UK population).
Raphe
Short raphe, mostly located on mantle; short terminal fissures bent dorsally close to the poles, recurved towards the valve centre, terminating in the centre of the valve face.
