Morphology

Size
22.4-32.6 µm long, 3.8-4.8 µm wide (UK population).

Shape
Valves weakly arcuate, ends slightly protracted and rounded; dorsal margin convex and with two small undulations, ventral margin slightly concave or almost straight; frustules in girdle view rectangular.

Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.

Striae
More or less parallel striae, 15-18 in 10 µm (UK population), 14-20 in 10 µm (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2011).

Raphe
Most of the raphe is on the mantle, a short part is bent dorsally and located on the valve face terminating very close to the poles.
