Morphology
Size
9.7-25.1 µm long, (2.9)3.4-4.5 µm wide (UK population).
Shape
Valves weakly arcuate to cresentic with broadly rounded ends; dorsal margin convex, ventral margin almost straight or very slightly concave.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Striae slightly radiate (15-19 in 10 µm, UK population).
Raphe
Most of the raphe is on the mantle, only a short part close to the poles is bent dorsally and located on the valve face.
SEM morphology
A rimoportula present at one end of the valve.
