Morphology

Size
Length 29-85 µm, width 2.0-2.3 µm (Lange-Bertalot & Ulrich 2014).

Shape
Valves linear, gradually tapering from the valve centre, with spatulate or subcapitate ends.

Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.

Striae
Striae parallel, opposite or alternating, 18.5-22 in 10 µm (Lange-Bertalot & Ulrich 2014).

Axial area
Narrow, linear.

Central area
Widened, extending to the margin, with ghost striae.


SEM morphology
Uniseriate striae with round or apically elongate areolae.

Two apical pore fields.

One rimoportula near a pore field.

Spines are present along the valve margin.
