Morphology

Shape
Valves lanceolate with rostrate ends.

Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.

Striae
Radiate, becoming parallel and convergent at the apices; uniseriate, transapically elongated areolae are visible in LM.

Axial area
Narrow, linear.

Central area
Circular, oval to narrow elongate in larger valves.

Raphe
Straight, filiform, proximal endings appear expanded in LM and are spaced wider apart in larger specimens than in B. neoexilis; one ridge on either side of the raphe (SEM).

Other features
Small protrusions on the virgae (SEM).
