Morphology

Size
Length 19-22 µm, width 5.9-6.4 µm (UK population).

Shape
Valves slightly cymbelloid, dorsal and ventral margins slightly convex, ventral margin with slightly inflated central part; weakly protracted, broadly rounded poles.

Symmetry
Isopolar, dorsiventral.

Striae
Slightly radiate, clearly punctate, uniseriate; areolae externally occluded (SEM).

Axial area
Narrow, linear.

Central area
Asymmetrical fascia extending to the ventral margin, wider on the ventral side, bordered by one short stria on the dorsal side; one isolated ‘stigma’ near the proximal raphe ends.

Raphe
Simple, straight with expanded, straight proximal ends; terminal fissures bent ventrally on the mantle (SEM).


SEM morphology
Apical pore fields present on the ventral side of the pole.

Girdle bands with one row of pores on the pars exterior.
