Morphology

Size
30-65 µm long, 7-12 µm wide (Lange-Bertalot & Moser 1994).

Shape
Valves lanceolate with cuneate apices.

Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.

Striae
Uniseriate, radiate, 20-24 in 10 µm (Lange-Bertalot & Moser 1994), transapically elongated areolae are visible in LM.

Axial area
Narrow, linear, widening slightly close to the central area.

Central area
Rhombic, 1/3-1/2 of the valve width.

Raphe
Straight, filiform with small proximal raphe ends.

SEM morphology
Valve surface smooth.

A ridge on either side of the raphe and along the valve margin.
