Morphology

Shape
Valves lanceolate with convex margins and rounded non-protracted apices.

Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.

Striae
Lineate, uniseriate, radiate at centre changing to parallel and slightly convergent at apices.

Axial area
Narrow, linear.

Central area
Very small rounded-elliptical to barely discernible.

Raphe
Straight, filiform, proximal endings appear expanded in LM; one rib on either side of the raphe (SEM).


SEM morphology
Small protrusions on the virgae and often also in the central area.
