Tebble name: n/a
Smith & Heppell name: Kelliella miliaris (Philippi,1844)

Notes on Nomenclature

Here previously as Kelliella abyssicola (Forbes 1844).

To size: To 3mm. Shell Structure: Thin, shiny. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Slightly inequilateral, beaks just in front of midline. Tumidity: Moderately tumid. Outline: Subcircular, very slightly longer than high; posterior slightly narrower than anterior; posterior dorsal slope distinct, almost straight; anterior dorsal margin broadly curved; posterior, ventral and anterior margins broadly curved. Contour: Lunule not depressed, demarcated by a faint groove.

Sculpture: Smooth with weak concentric lines and growth stops. Ligament: External, small. Hinge: Teeth variable in prominence; LV with a single oblique cardinal below the beak angled across the hinge plate (4b), in anterior of beak a sinuous tooth lies parallel with the hinge plate composed of two parts, the first a concave lamella (probably joined 2b2 and 2a) joined to the second, a convex lamella (probably a lateral AII); a large socket lies above the combined tooth and a smaller socket lies below AII. RV with a single oblique cardinal below beak (3b), anterior to 3b a complex tooth with an oblique ridge parallel c3 (1) and a much larger laminar part (3a) in a horizontal orientation, anterior and ventral to 3a is a laminar lateral (AI) in a horizontal orientation. Pallial Musculature: Inner margin with an incised groove; muscle scars obscure. Periostracum: Thin, obscure. Colour: White.
