Notes on Nomenclature
To size: To 2mm. Shell Structure: Thin, fragile. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: More or less equiliateral. Tumidity: Extremely tumid. Outline: Obliquely oval, extended antero-ventrally: height of shell at least 80% of the length. Anterior dorsal margin straight and short, posterior dorsal margin longer and with a distinct angle at the postero-dorsal junction. Ventral margin deeply rounded with its lowest point in front of the umbos. No lunule or escutcheon. Umbo large, prominent, swollen and raised above the dorsal margin; prodissoconch smooth, moderately conspicuous with a poorly defined margin.
Sculpture: Primary sculpture of numerous, extremely fine, regular concentric lines. Margin: Smooth. Ligament: Internal, opisthodetic, prominent, elongate, dark brown ligament seated in an elongated groove which runs along the lower part of the posterior hinge plate for about a third of its length. Hinge: Taxodont: relatively weak hinge plate separated into 2 parts by a small notch. Posteriorly the hinge plate has 4 long, horizontally aligned, overlapping teeth. The anterior part of the hinge plate is short and broadens anteriorly with 2 long, weak, horizontally aligned, overlapping teeth in the left valve and 1 in the right, set some distance from the umbo. Pallial Musculature: Pallial line and muscle scars indistinct. Periostracum: Glossy, creamy straw-coloured. Colour: Translucent white to bluey grey, inside of shell lustrous. Additional Characters: Five rather elongated loops on either side of the body.
