To size: To 60mm. Shell Structure: Thin valves, fragile margins. Equivalve: Inequivalve. Equilateral: Inequilateral. Tumidity: Compressed. Outline: Circular to quadrangular. Contour: Posterior margin slightly extended.
Sculpture: Scaly often with radial rows of fragile flattened scales. Margin: Smooth, irregular. Ligament: External, sunken one third the length of dorsal margin. Hinge: Edentulous. Pallial Musculature: One central adductor scar. Periostracum: Thin, flaky. Colour: White, turning to purple at the posterior, anterior and ventral margins. The radial scales leave white radial scars behind. Internal sometimes tinged with green.

3 specimens attached to plastic spool on Chesil Beach, Dorset. 1 shell in a bait pot, Loher Beach, Waterville, Co Kerry.
