To size: To 3mm. Shell Structure: Thin, brittle. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Inequilateral, beaks behind the midline. Tumidity: Moderately inflated. Outline: Oval to oblong; anterior dorsal margin sloping gently; anterior rounded to subtruncate; ventral long gently curved; posterior broadly rounded; posterior dorsal short, sloping steeply.

Sculpture: Of concentric lines and growth stops. Margin: Inner margin smooth. Ligament: Internal, large set on an oblique resilifer angling behind the beaks. Hinge: Hinge teeth relatively strong. RV with anterior and posterior laterals; LV with anterior and posterior laterals and a single small cardinal peg. Pallial Musculature: Indistinct. Periostracum: Indistinct. Colour: White when small becoming progressively tinged red.

Distribution & Ecology

Widespread, intertidal on rocky shores, may be genuinely absent from SE England
