Shape
Valves lanceolate with small rostrate or subcapitate ends.

Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.

Striae
Parallel, dot-like marks are visible at the valve margins, which are the spaces between the fibulae.

Raphe
The raphes of the two valves lie on opposite sides ('nitzschioid symmetry').


SEM morphology
Striae biseriate, becoming multiseriate towards the raphe.
