Morphology

Size
Length 10-32.5 µm, width 4.7-7 µm (Reichardt 2009).

Shape
Valves narrow elliptic with broadly rounded, slightly protracted head pole and narrowly rounded to acute foot pole.

Symmetry
Heteropolar, valve outline bilaterally symmetrical.

Striae
Striae uniseriate, slightly to moderately radiate throughout the valve, areolae round, discernible in LM.

Axial area
Narrow, linear.

Central area
Asymmetrical, broad, rectangular or acute-angled, extending to the valve margin on one side, narrower and bordered by a short stria on the opposite side. A single stigma located near the valve centre.

Raphe
Straight, proximal raphe ends expanded, internal proximal raphe fissures terminate in oblique hooks.

SEM morphology
Round internal stigma opening occluded by a flap and surrounded by a collar-like ring of small nodules.
