Frustules heterovalvar.

Valves linear-elliptic, elliptic, or lanceolate, with rounded or slightly protracted apices.

Raphe valve concave, rapheless valve convex.

Mantle with a row of pores, with convex occlusions internally.

Striae biseriate. Areolae round, occluded internally by hymenes.

Raphe valve with stauros-like asymmetrical fascia.

Raphe straight with expanded teardrop-shaped central ends, internally slightly deflected in opposite directions; terminal raphe fissures deflected in opposite directions.
