Morphology

Size
8.5-26 µm long, 4.5-6 µm wide (Van de Vijver et al. 2018).

Shape
Linear to oval valves with rounded ends.

Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.

Striae
Striae short, more or less parallel or slightly radiate, 8-8.5 in 10 µm (Van de Vijver et al. 2018).

Axial area
Axial area wide, linear to lanceolate.

Other features
Cells forming long colonies.


SEM morphology
Lineolae continue from valve face to mantle, decreasing in size towards the ends of the striae.

Flattened, bifurcate spines on virgae.
