To size: To 10mm. Shell Structure: Thin but robust. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Inequilateral, beaks distinctly in front of the midline. Tumidity: Moderate. Outline: Sub quadrate; anterior dorsal margin very short sloping and a little excavated; posterior dorsal margin short. Posterior margin long, almost straight; ventral margin gently curved, anterior roundly angled. Contour: Posterior angle distinct, posterior area broad and flattened. Lunule oval, smooth.

Sculpture: As typical form but largely lacking any nodules or spines on ribs. Margin: Crenulated by interlocking ribs and interspaces. Furrows extending into the umbonal cavity in most specimens. Ligament: Prominent, on short nymph. Hinge: Weak, RV with 2 anterior laterals, 1 posterior lateral, 2 cardinals. LV with single anterior and posterior laterals and 2 cardinals. Pallial Musculature: Obscure. Periostracum: Persistent often as a fringe on the ribs. Colour: Mostly coloured mottled, tan, greenish brown, darker brown.

Distribution & Ecology

A form known from the Baltic and Loch Sween in Scotland. Inhabiting Zostera beds in very sheltered sites.

The exact significance of this form is under review.
Similar in outline and contour but a thinner shell largely lacking nodules and incisions. Mostly coloured mottled, tan, greenish brown darker brown.
