To size: To 52 mm. Shell Structure: Thin, solid. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Equilateral. Tumidity: Tumid. Outline: Broadly fan shaped, auricles sub-equal. Cteniolum with 2 teeth.

Sculpture: Broad radial ribs with fine concentric lines. Margin: Coarsely crenulated margin, extensions of radial ribs. Ligament: Small triangular, internal. Hinge: Edentulous, but some crural teeth may be present in adults. Pallial Musculature: Monomyarian large circular posterior adductor muscle. Colour: Creamy white, tinged with pale pink internally, orange to pink mottling externally.

Distribution & Ecology

In native range from Maryland south to Bermuda, Caribbean and south to Brazil . Common in eel grass beds in some areas.

In Britain and Ireland it has been found inside a small blue toy boat that washed ashore in Co. Clare, Ireland, along with one specimen of Anadara transversa.
