Morphology
Size
38-120 µm long, 18-24 µm wide (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2017).
Shape
Valves with strongly convex dorsal margin, slightly concave ventral margin, except for slightly tumid central section. Valve ends broadly rounded and slightly protracted.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Striae radiate, some striae slightly curved, 7-11 in 10 µm; areolae visible in LM, 12-18 in 10 µm (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2017).
Axial area
Narrow, linear, approximately in centre of valve.
Central area
Round, approximately 1/3 of valve width.
Raphe
Raphe lateral becoming filiform near proximal and distal ends, proximal ends expanded, drop-shaped, straight or slightly ventrally deflected, dorsally deflected terminal fissures.
Other features
3-4 (UK population), 2-5 (Krammer 2002), stigmata on ventral side of central nodule.
