Remarks
Melvill, 1888b: 288:
“NOTE.- The types of the foregoing species are in my collection, and with the exception of M. percnodictya and rhodinosphaera, of each of which only two specimens are known, and M. aerumnosa and fulvosulcata, of which there are several, are all represented as yet by single unique specimens”.
Current name:
Hans Turner (2001) synonymises Mitra chariessa Melvill 1888 under Vexillum (Costellaria) rubellum (Adams & Reeve, 1850), but Manfred Herrmann (pers. comm.) suggests that this is incorrect. Herrmann considers it a possible synonym of Vexillum scitulum (A.Adams, 1853) but further images of the shell are required before this can be confirmed.
